With California's obsession with environmentalism, it is no surprise that major manufacturers highlight their green credentials at every opportunity, while still unveiling vehicles for mainstream customers. Honda showed the Insight, which is aimed directly at the popular Toyota Prius. Lexus revealed the new RX crossover SUV, available in gasoline and hybrid versions. The new Lexus IS convertible, first shown in Paris, is ideally suited for southern California's sunny climate. Not to be outdone, the Infiniti G37 convertible boasts an articulated hardtop that transforms into a handsome coupe. Ford introduced heavily revised versions of the Fusion, Milan, and MKZ sedans, as well as hybrid variants of the Fusion and Milan. A colorful fleet of new Mustangs showed a new level of factory customization available from Ford. Mazda brought the striking new Mazda3, which appears to be significantly more luxurious than its predecessor. Nissan used the LA Auto Show as the venue to reveal the production 370Z and the box-like Cube. Chrysler had EV versions of its minivan, a new Dodge sports car, and a Jeep. BMW made the US introduction of the 7-Series, and X5 diesel, while its Mini division showed an electric Mini E for urban commuters. Auto manufacturers are responding to political pressure to be more environmentally conscious, and the LA Auto Show is undoubtedly the place to do so.
