This year's New York International Auto Show nearly matched the Detroit auto show (NAIAS) for significant North American vehicle introductions. European manufacturers debuted several models first shown in Geneva. Among them were the Mercedes-Benz CLA compact sedan and the BMW 3-Series GT hatchback. Volkswagen brought the new Golf and GTI to New York. Cadillac's eagerly anticipated CTS becomes larger to take on the Germans and the Japanese premium brands. The new Z/28 is the most track focused Camaro in decades, and the rear-drive SS shows that Chevrolet has not forgotten enthusiasts who need a spacious 4-door sedan. Jeep's introduced a shark-like Cherokee to replace the aging Liberty SUV. Meanwhile, Toyota showed a redesigned Highlander and a hybrid Avalon sedan. Nissan added a hybrid Pathfinder to its lineup, and the NV200 for the New York taxi fleet. Subaru unveiled the WRX Concept to an appreciative crowd, along with the Crosstrek Hybrid. Incremental updates for the Honda Odyssey, Dodge Durango, Kia Optima, and models from other brands highlighted the increasing competition among the automakers as they vie to keep their models relevant for North American customers.
