- 2005 New York International Auto Show
Since the NYIAS is the final major US auto show, many manufacturers save some of their splashy debuts for New York. BMW unveiled the completely redesigned 325i & 330i sedans, previously shown in Geneva. Cadillac exhibited the supercharged XLR-V roadster, with a surprise appearance by Donald Trump. Volvo "trumped" Cadillac with Richard Branson in an astronaut suit at the introduction of the Volvo XC90 concept SUV. A reworked, and mildly facelifted Lancer Evolution IX was the highlight of the Mitsubishi press conference. Carroll Shelby proudly showed a blazing red Mustang GT500. The 3rd generation Mazda MX-5 Miata made its North American appearance at New York. Dodge displayed the 6.1L Hemi-powered Charger SRT-8, and an intimidating law enforcement version as well. Other significant introductions included the Hyundai Azera entry-level luxury sedan, Mercedes-Benz R-Class wagons, and the hybrid Lexus GS450h luxury sedan. Overall, the 2005 NYIAS is a superb opportunity to see the latest cars and trucks before the auto show season starts again this fall at Frankfurt.
